Future Jobs Fund

The Government's announcement on reducing the deficit and the Future Jobs Fund [July 2010]

As part of the plans, Ministers have decided that no further bids to the Future Jobs Fund (FJF) will be approved for funding.
Ministers appreciate the efforts of all FJF providers in helping workless people into jobs and are now working to develop the 'Work Programme' which will provide new opportunities for national and local parners to contribute to the Government's ambitious programme to tackle unemployment.

The Future Jobs Fund has been set up as a response to the recession and rising levels of unemployment - in particular amongst 18-24 year olds and in ‘unemployment hotspots'. Its aim is to avoid, or minimize, the impact of long-term unemployment for individuals and for the future of the economy.

Also we have placed three emplyees at Reading Community Radio, Unity Arts (Reading), and Scout Enterprises (Western). All these are Admin type positions.

Transport

There still remains certain logistical difficulties over transport, making the most efficient and cost effective use of the minibus availability for both FJF and BYPP projects.

Training and Development

Induction of FJF employees is now a standard process and is completed within the first week of employment, usually on the first day.
Training of FJF emplyees again is now standard with basic training events being completed within six weeks of employment, e.g. Manual Handling, First Aid, and Health & Safety.

Reviews are undertaken casually within the first three month of employment and then a full PDR undertaken at this time. This enables some discussion on performance and better enables the identification of training needs for the final three months.

Job search, CV design and portfolio building is well underway for all employees with structured training and development time planned for every Thursday.
