Berkshire Young People's Project

Berkshire Young People's Project

A new volunteer project designed for young people (18-25 years) who are currently not in employment. The projects undertaken by the volunteers will be aimed at the improvement of the environment and helping the local community.

These projects will allow volunteers to acquire a whole range of skills that will prepare them to be ready to take up work. The informal working activities will help them improve social skills such as problem solving, communication, and team working abilities, which in turn will build their confidence and self-esteem enhancing their value to prospective employers.

There will also be the opportunity of learning more practical skills such as IT, money management, health and safety, manual handling, and first aid. Courses aimed at motivation and confidence building will also be available.

Berkshire Young People's Project Progress Report July 2010

Berkshire Young People's Project has been a successful way of providing opportunities for unemployed people. Each week we have on average eight volunteers attending a minimum of two days a week, with a mix of new and regular volunteers. The participants have developed a number of skill such as leadership, team work and confidence. The team have helped a number of local charities completing a wide range of conversation projects to improve the environment. Nathan Bray is successfully working on this project and has included a MSC type course for the volunteers at Adventure Dolphin (kayaking).
Current grant funding for BYPP ends September 2010, however we are currently looking for future funding including Lottery funding.
